Karen Nichol’s 2018 in Review

It’s really hard to believe that the year is coming to an end. I guess time flies when you’re having fun. It’s been another incredible year for sure, both personally and professionally.

On the professional end, I enjoyed a couple of fantastic courses. In April, I enjoyed a great cervical spine course put on by Vancouver’s very own neck guru, Carol Kennedy. The bonus of this course was that colleagues Jayme and Brendan also joined in, making the weekend that much more fun. As well, this September I had the opportunity to take a deep dive into the thoracic spine, exploring ways to assess and treat this area using Dr. LJ Lee’s ‘thoracic ring’ approach.

Outside of work, this summer I had the opportunity to get back to Ireland to attend my cousin's wedding in Dublin and catch up with all of my family who live there. I took an additional week to do a tour around the country, exploring many back roads I hadn’t seen before. I also enjoyed lots of local hikes, some good bike rides, and morning swims up at Sasamat lake.

I really enjoyed our Royal City Physio Christmas party, held at Chambar restaurant in downtown Vancouver. I love having dedicated time for all of us to just kick back and have fun outside of the clinic.

On a sad note, we have to say goodbye to Brendan as he and his fiancé, Kelsey, have set up their new home in Nelson, BC. Brendan has been a great addition to our clinic and will be greatly missed by staff and patients. We wish him and Kelsey all the best for their future in the majestic Kootenays.

At the end of any year I always like to look back and think of all the things I am most grateful for on both a personal and professional level. With respect to Royal City Physio, this will always be a very easy answer - it’s the people of course! I honestly cannot imagine a better group to work with day in and day out. I am unbelievably grateful for each person that contributes to the extremely positive, professional, and fun atmosphere that our clinic is known for. From our front desk to our therapists, our clinic has become what it is today because of each of these individual’s dedication to our clients. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each of them for their invaluable contribution to our workplace.

And last but not least, I am grateful for our PATIENTS!! What an amazing group of clients we have. The support our clinic has received in this community since opening 6 years ago is incredible. I want to offer a heartfelt thank you to all of you who continue to support us with your patronage or in sending your friends, family and patients our way. We promise to continue to provide first-class care to each and every person that we see.

I’m looking forward to what 2019 has in store; I doubt it's nothing short of excitement, laughter and growth. Until then, I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday season, and dedicates time to staying active and spending time with loved ones.
