Healthy Hydrating (April): Wellness Tea
Winter is melting away and blooming into spring but even though the seasons are changing, those cold bugs don't seem to be going away. Even though the weather is quickly transitioning into brighter days and warmer afternoons, we still occasionally get the drizzly morning and overcast skies with chilly winds. All of this makes it hard to keep those sniffly noses and cold symptoms away. But have I got the recipe for you!
With only a few simple ingredients, you can have a piping hot cup of tea that will help fight those runny noses and coughs and keep you healthy for the months to come. Plus, it's just straight up delicious!
What you'll need:
- A few sprigs of ginger
- 1 - 2 lemons
- A few pinches of ground Cayenne pepper
- Lemon Ginger tea (Herbal is best)
- A spoonful of honey
1. Remove the papery outer layer of your ginger with a spoon. Grate your ginger using a cheese grater.
2. Cut your lemon and juice it. (Tip: poke your lemon with a fork to ensure all the juice gets out.)
3. Put ginger and lemon juice together in mug. Add honey and cayenne pepper.
4. Mix all ingredients together in mug.
5. Boil water.
6. Steep tea with ingredients, pouring boiled water over tea bag and ingredients. Mix together.
7. Let cool and enjoy!
Sometimes I drink this just for the taste, it's so scrumptious. Ginger is known to very good for your stomach while lemon is very good at cleaning away bacteria from your throat and stomach because of it's acidity. Honey is a good way to naturally coat your throat if it's sore instead of ingesting tons of lozenges. Cayenne Pepper has lots of different health benefits but in this particular case, it breaks up mucus and moves it through your body, relieving congestion. Don't underestimate these natural ingredients, they really work in preventing and relieving cold and flu symptoms. They're also all digestive aids which will help a stomach ache as well.
